First, let’s talk a little about our history.
Ash Weller has enjoyed many highlights in his 18 year career in the hairdressing industry, such as opening the original Born Barbers barbershop when he was just 23 years old, regenerating a dying art in mens’ grooming in Adelaide, whilst reshaping the experience, providing men with a booking only, high quality service.
Ash placed a high priority on hair education, and has had a long, impactful career in the field. He travelled Australia as a WAHL ambassador, has made several trips to the USA, where he’s had the opportunity to work with world famous artists like Arctic Monkeys, Gang of Youths, Yelawolf and more.
He’s shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry, speaking to sold-out audiences at Orlando Premier and Brooklyn NYC 2019, spreading his love of hairdressing, barber fusion cutting techniques and inspiring up and coming hairdressers looking to make their own mark.
After returning from his last series of overseas events, Ash decided to launch one of the most interactive, industry re-shaping shows seen in South Australia, flying in world-renowned hair expert J. Harris from Houston, Texas to help educate a sold-out audience on alternative cutting techniques and business operations.

The advent of covid brought new, previously unseen challenges for Ash, his business and the industry as a whole, but the accolades kept on coming. In 2020, he won the “Hot Shots of the Year” award, one of the most prestigious titles in Australia, at only 30 yrs old, which gave him the opportunity to travel to Melbourne to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, be mentored by some of the greats, and undergo photo shoots with industry icon Andrew O’Toole. This period really inspired Ash to move on to the next stage of his career, and gave him the confidence to undertake his latest project.
His dream was to bring both his existing and new clientele a fresh feel, combining his love for barbering with his roots in hairdressing, to create a forward-thinking, salon experience. A place that welcomes all walks of life into a unique, intimate setting, offering the latest in colour and cutting techniques for long and short hair, using the highest quality and environmentally sustainable products.
Ash’s drive at the new salon is to create a space that encompasses his journey through life, the hair industry and around the world, placed in the middle of suburban Adelaide, but with vibes reflecting the crews’ eclectic love of culture and music, especially jazz, blues and funk.
Basin St, (Rue Bassin) pays homage to the culture and music born out of the French Quarter of New Orleans in the early 20th Century.
Basin St, where good folks meet.
